16th February 2022

Elaine is an industry builder in the post-animal bio-economy. As the Chief Innovation Officer at the Material Innovation Initiative (MII), Elaine works with startups and investors in growing a next-gen materials industry to replace animal-based materials. Elaine also served as the Managing Director of the Good Food Institute (GFI) Asia Pacific, building and accelerating the alternative proteins industry. Prior to her career shift, Elaine had over a decade of experience in corporate and finance law.

What we talk about

In this episode we talk about finding the courage to quit and Elaine’s new book, The Next 40,000 Hours, about the second half of your career after finding meaning. We talk about choosing a path no one has walked before, the post-animal economy, the parallels between animal production and racism, the holocaust and sexism, why animal rights must come after human rights, and the importance of not separating ourselves from people who make different choices.
